Local Attractions

Places to visit in Swaledale, amble around the many pretty villages with names such as Reeth, Gunnerside, Crackpot, Muker, Keld. Visit amazing waterfalls castles, walk the rolling hills covered in heather, view the famous field barns and wild flower meadows-particularly stunning in June, hire bikes, the electric ones are great and cycle the swale trail , stopping for cake along the way!!!. Drive over the mighty Buttertubs pass or cycle!!! Walk along the cobbled streets and visit specialty shops and markets selling local cheeses, beers, breads etc.  Every season has something to offer, the colours and  landscape, the  wildlife and history. The dales truly offer an escapism from a hectic lifestyle, as one guest recently told me – Swaledale is their piece of heaven on earth.  There are so many things to see and do in Yorkshire whatever the weather and listed below are a few links to give you some ideas.

Further afield the beautiful city of York (1 hour away) is a stunning place to visit as is Ripon, Harrogate, Knaresborough (45 mins away). Wharfedale and Malhamdale lie within 1 hours drive  as does Teesdale, Durham and half an hour to Barnard Castle. The Lake district is equally a great place for a day visit (1 hour drive), that’s if you have time or the longing to stray from the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales.

See our gallery to view some of the lovely scenery and countryside.
