Billy Gill’s Cottage

Billy Gills cottage named after William Gill, a previous owner of High Gill House and cottage for over 100 years. Historically the house and cottage spent its life as a pub, temperance hotel, drapers and outfitters and a post office. It’s the ideal self-catering holiday cottage situated in Swaledale.

We renovated this lovely cottage to provide luxury accommodation for couples or the solo traveller. It’s ideal for romantic breaks or just somewhere to come and relax. There are many fabulous walks direct from the door , there is a little voluntary run dales bus too if you’d like to leave the car behind and although not as regular as a main town bus, provides a great service. The views are breathtaking from the south facing windows and private patio area. The scenery is forever changing, the wildlife in abundance, peace and tranquility,it’s everything you could wish for. The cottage has private off road parking and if required we can provide secure bicycle storage in our barn.

The Area – Swaledale

Low Row is a beautiful Dales village which is fabulous for walking and admiring the scenery.
The Punch Bowl pub provides wonderful food and a 5 minute walk from the cottage. Further shops, pubs and cafes can be found in Reeth, four miles away. The nearest market towns are Leyburn (10 miles), Richmond (14 miles) or Hawes (12 miles). On a friday evening the local fish and chip mobile van visits Low Row, great for an easy tea! The local bakery in Reeth has a pizza takeaway evening also on certain thursdays in the month. There’s a great bike centre in Fremington (approx 4 miles away) which can provide bike hire including electric bikes to explore the dales. The cafe there too is amazing with the largest selection of cakes i’ve ever seen!!

Billy Gills Cottage – Kitchen and living room with wood burner

The first floor comprises of an open plan kitchen with lounge area and a separate utility room with toilet/sink and washing machine area.
The beautiful hand made kitchen, oak parquet flooring, large sofa, wood burner incorporating an oven makes for a wonderful cosy retreat. We particularly enjoyed choosing all the individual items to make this a really special place to remember.

Billy Gills Cottage – Beautiful bright bedroom with a sunny patio area

The solid oak staircase leads down to two doors, one opening out to a sunny patio area with far reaching views of Swaledale. Chairs, table and bbq/fire provides a space for alfresco dining. The other door leads to a beautiful bright bedroom with a luxury king size bed. A large double ended bath sits in the bedroom with a separate ensuite comprising of toilet, sink and large rainfall shower. Towels are provided and a bar of beautiful locally made soap.
